Make your own Dog Treats

Today I am going to share my recipe for Liver Bread, a delicious and easy to make treat for your pups.


250g fresh chicken livers
Cake flour
2-3 eggs
Optional tin of tuna/pilchards

You will need a mixing bowl and a hand mixer or blender to break up the livers

If you do not have a hand blender you can chop the livers with a knife until they are as small as possible, as close to a paste as you can get them


  1. Put all of the chicken livers into a bowl and using a hand blender, mix until relatively smooth
  2. Crack open the eggs into the same bowl and blitz once more making sure eggs are combined well
  3. If you wish – add a tin of drained tuna or similar and use a wooden spoon to mix
  4. Add flour until mixture is a little thicker but still moist
  5. Add oats until the mixture is quite thick and sticks to the spoon
  6. Place on grease proof paper and the onto flat oven proof dish and spread out evenly so it’s around 1-2cm thick
  7. Put into the oven for 20 minutes at 180 degrees
    Check the middle of the bread is not soft using a wooden stick. If it comes out clean then it is done.  
  8. Leave to cool for 10 minutes
  9. Cut into pieces
  10. Leave to cool completely
  11. Place into air tight container or bag and freeze
